Japan will consider government adoption of artificial intelligence technology such as OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot if privacy and cybersecurity concerns are resolved, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said on Monday. The remarks from Matsuno, the top government spokesperson, came shortly before Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI , met Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during a visit to Japan, where Altman said his company is "looking at opening an office". Asked about Italy's temporary ban on ChatGPT - developed by Microsoft  backed OpenAI - Matsuno told a news conference that Japan is aware of other countries' actions. Japan will continue evaluating possibilities of introducing AI to reduce government workers' workload after assessing how to respond to concerns such as data breaches, Matsuno said. Microsoft has integrated an AI-powered image generator that uses DALL-E technology into its Bing chatbot recently . Now, the tech giant has widely rolled out the AI tool dubbed Bing Image Creator on desktops for Edge users. Arranged in the sidebar panel in the Edge browser, the new tool would allow users to create pictures based on their text prompts and the Image Creator will offer four different image options to choose from. Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the safety and trust of digital citizens, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has notified amendments to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, related to online gaming and spread of false and misleading information regarding government business. The aim of these amendments was to enforce greater due diligence by online gaming and social media intermediaries, the ministry said in a release on Thursday evening. North Korea, cybercriminals, ransomware attackers, thieves and scammers are using decentralized finance (DeFi) services to transfer and launder their illicit proceeds, the US Treasury Department warned on Thursday. So-called DeFi platforms allow users to lend, borrow and save, usually in cryptoassets and stablecoins, without using banks. In a new illicit finance risk assessment on decentralized finance, the Treasury found that illicit actors are exploiting vulnerabilities in US and foreign anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) regulation and enforcement as well the technology underpinning the services. DeFi services that fail to comply with these obligations to prevent money laundering and terrorism financing pose the most significant illicit finance risk in this domain, the assessment found.
