Amazon Duped Millions of Customers Into Signing Up for Prime Says US Regulator in a Lawsuit

The US Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday accused Amazon.com of enrolling millions of consumers into its paid subscription Amazon Prime service without their consent and making it hard for them to cancel, the agency's latest action against the ecommerce giant in recent weeks. The FTC sued Amazon in federal court in Seattle, alleging that the company has "knowingly duped millions of consumers into unknowingly enrolling in Amazon Prime." In a statement, Amazon called the FTC's claims "false on the facts and the law." Amazon has used "manipulative, coercive or deceptive user-interface designs known as 'dark patterns' to trick consumers into enrolling in automatically renewing Prime subscriptions," the FTC said as it seeks civil penalties and a permanent injunction to prevent future violations. 5G in India Seen Accounting for About 57 Percent of Mobile Subscriptions by 2028: Ericsson Mobility Report

The 5G subscription in India is estimated to have reached about 10 million by 2022 end, and is seen accounting for about 57 percent of mobile subscriptions in the country by the end of 2028, making it "the fastest growing" 5G region globally, according to Ericsson Mobility Report.  With the launch of 5G services in October 2022, the major 5G Indian market is witnessing huge network deployments under its Digital India initiative, it observed. Alphabet 's Google must pay patent holding company Personal Audio LLC $15.1 million (nearly Rs. 120 crore) for infringing two patents related to audio software, a Delaware federal jury said in a verdict made public on Wednesday. Personal Audio had argued that Google's music app Google Play Music featured playlist downloading, navigation and editing features that violated its patent rights. The jury also said that Google infringed the patents willfully, which could lead to a judge increasing the award by up to three times the verdict amount. Google spokesperson Jose Castaneda said on Wednesday that the company was disappointed with the verdict and plans to appeal. He said the verdict concerns a "discontinued product" and would not affect customers. YouTubes First Live E-Commerce Shopping Channel to Launch in South Korea: Report

YouTube will launch its first official shopping channel for live commerce in South Korea on June 30, Yonhap news agency reported on Wednesday. South Korea already has a booming live-streaming commerce business led by tech giant Naver , making it a prime test market for the global heavyweight as the Alphabet -owned company focuses on becoming more "shoppable". The new channel will operate in Korean language and will start as a 90-day project. In the beginning, it will provide a live-commerce platform to companies and plans to livestream shopping content from about 30 brands, Yonhap and other Korean media said, citing people familiar with the matter. OpenAI , creator of the widely popular chatbot ChatGPT , plans to launch a marketplace that will allow developers to sell their AI models built on top of its own AI technology, news site the Information reported on Tuesday, citing people with knowledge of discussions at the company. Enterprise customers using ChatGPT often tailor the technology to their specific uses, which range from identifying financial fraud from online transaction data to answering questions about specific markets based on internal documents. According to the news report, makers of such models could offer them to other businesses through OpenAI's proposed marketplace. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman disclosed the potential plans during a meeting with developers in London last month, the report said. Such a marketplace could compete with app stores run by some of the company's customers and technology partners — including Salesforce and Microsoft — and help OpenAI's technology reach a broader customer base.
