LinkedIn Founder Reid Hoffman Leaves OpenAI's Board Over Conflicts of Interest

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman is leaving OpenAI's board to avoid conflicts of interest as he backs more artificial intelligence companies, he said in an online post. Hoffman, who has invested in and advised the startup since its 2015 founding, said his venture capital firm Greylock is funding companies such as presentation generator Tome, which are paying for tools from OpenAI , the creator of chatbot sensation ChatGPT . Hoffman also co-founded Inflection AI, one of the highest profile startups working on technology similar to OpenAI's. "By stepping off the board, I can proactively put to rest any downstream potential issues for both OpenAI and all Greylock portfolio companies I've backed," he said, noting OpenAI has avoided conflicts to date. Hoffman's departure underscores competition among an increasing number companies aiming to reshape content production as well as entire industries through AI . Government Could Bring Digital India Act to Stop Online Criminal Activities: Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar

The government is working on a Digital India Act to incorporate new rules for stopping internet-aided circulation of illegal, criminal and child sexual abuse material, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar said on Friday. Addressing a conference on 'Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)', hosted by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) at the Vigyan Bhawan here, the minister of state for electronics and information technology, said this will make internet service providers (ISPs) and other intermediaries more accountable for hosting offensive content. He said the existing Information Technology Act does not address the challenges of the present times. "Hence, the government formed the IT Rules, 2021, and amended it in 2022 to make intermediaries liable, and it is also proposing to bring a digital technology law," Chandrashekhar said. The minister said the government is committed to encouraging the use of internet by people as a tool for their empowerment but i

Snapchat Removes Few Children Off Its Platform Every Month in Britain: Ofcom

Snapchat is kicking dozens of children in Britain off its platform each month compared with tens of thousands blocked by rival TikTok, according to internal data the companies shared with Britain's media regulator Ofcom and which Reuters has seen. Social media platforms such as Meta 's Instagram , ByteDance 's TikTok , and Snap 's Snapchat require users to be at least 13 years old. According to the data seen by Reuters, TikTok told Ofcom that between April 2021 and April 2022, it had blocked an average of around 180,000 suspected underage accounts in Britain every month, or around 2 million in that 12-month period. Samsung Files Trademarks for AR/VR Capable ‘Galaxy Glasses’, Smart Ring: Report

Samsung is reportedly gearing up to make additions to its wearable gadget offerings. The South Korean conglomerate has reportedly filed for trademarks in the US, which could be in line with the company's efforts to expand its AR/VR and Mixed Reality portfolios. Although tech companies generally register trademarks that are intentionally broad-based in order to allow enough time and room for the research project to grow, it does serve as an indication that the company intends to launch the product or technology in the market it has filed for the trademark in — which in the case of Samsung's latest trademark filing is reportedly the US. According to a report by 9to5google, which cites a trademarks and patents database website, uspto.report, Samsung has registered a trademark under the brand name 'GALAXY GLASSES™' which is believed to be intended for Samsung's in-development smart glasses. The report states that the trademark registration covers VR/AR, headphones, s
