Japan Aims to Treble Sales of Domestically Produced Microchips to JPY 15 Trillion by 2030

Japan's industry ministry said on Monday it aimed to treble sales of semiconductors made in Japan to JPY 15 trillion (roughly Rs. 9,285,004,593,300 crore) by 2030 as Tokyo strives to boost domestic microchip production following global supply chain snarls. Japan sees microchips as strategic products to strengthen its economic security and is providing hefty subsidies to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co ( TSMC ) and others to build plants in Japan or have them expand existing facilities. The ministry plans to put the sales target in Japan's semiconductor and digital industry strategy, which will be updated by the middle of the year. Japan has seen its share in the global microchip market tumble from 50 percent in the late 1980s to around 10 percent, outperformed by nimbler rivals with deep pockets such as South Korea's Samsung Electronics. Last week, Japan said it would restrict exports of 23 types of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, aligning its technology

Algorand Aims to Make India Hotspot for Web3 Developers, Blockchain Projects: Anil Kakani

The team behind Algorand, a layer-1 blockchain, is going bullish on India's potential to grow the Web3 and blockchain market. In conversation with Gadgets 360, Anil Kakani, the India Country Head at Algorand Foundation said that onboarding as many Indian developers as possible onto the Web3 wagon is crucial for the development of the sector. Last week, Algorand Foundation launched its India-focussed initiative called ‘AlgoBharat'. With this, the organisation marked its presence in the nation's ‘aatmanirbhar' mission, that strives to make Indian industries completely self-reliant. The blockchain technology , that India is keen on exploring, can provide eco-friendly solutions to a bunch of existing issues like maintaining fragile paper-based records as well as alterable healthcare and financial histories. As more developers from Indian engineering institutes join the blockchain sector, more solutions towards permanent records and environment-friendly technologies could

ChatGPT’s ‘iPhone Moment’ Poses a New Threat to Google

Just as we were getting used to the idea of ChatGPT writing emails and conducting research, OpenAI has upgraded it with capabilities that make it even more of a threat to big tech companies such as Google. ChatGPT's new plugins, released last week with relatively little fanfare, are a major leap forward for the technology. In a nutshell, it is going from merely generating text to taking action on the web, turning it into the type of powerful virtual assistant that Alphabet's Google and Apple . have been trying to build for years.  ChatGPT's plugins allow businesses to essentially plug the tool into their own systems so that it can do things like search proprietary datasets or even carry out tasks like booking a restaurant, or writing and executing code. There are serious potential risks from this, but in the corporate game of technological one-upmanship, OpenAI has created a daunting new front against the incumbents.  That's because for the plugins to work, users
