Apple Supplier Foxconn Said to Plan $200 Million Factory in India After Winning AirPods Order

Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn has won an order to make AirPods for Apple and plans to build a factory in India to produce the wireless earphones, two people with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters. The deal will see Foxconn , the world's largest contract electronics maker and assembler of around 70 percent of all iPhones, become an AirPods supplier for the first time and underlines efforts by the key Apple supplier to further diversify production away from China. AirPods are currently made by a range of Chinese suppliers. One source said Foxconn will invest more than $200 million (roughly Rs. 1,650 crore) in the new India AirPods plant in the southern Indian state of Telangana. It wasn't immediately clear how much the AirPods order would be worth. The person, who requested anonymity as the matter was not public yet, said Foxconn officials had debated internally for months about whether to assemble AirPods due to relatively lower profit margins on making

Apple Partner Foxconn to Ramp Up Investment Outside China as Consumer Electronics Demand Dips

Apple supplier Foxconn on Wednesday said it plans to ramp up investment outside of China and efforts to attract automakers to its contract manufacturing business, as the company reported weaker demand for consumer electronics. Foxconn , which assembles around 70 percent of iPhones, has been diversifying production away from China, whose strict COVID restrictions disrupted its biggest iPhone plant last year. The company also seeks to avoid a potential hit to its business from mounting trade tensions between Beijing and Washington. "It is customer demand that guides our considerations on how to deploy our production capacity in the ICT field," Foxconn Chairman Liu Young-way said on an earnings call, referring to information and communications technology. He said expansion was needed in countries such as the US, Vietnam, India, Mexico and China, "in response to customer and supply chain adjustments". Liu said currently about 70 percent of the company's revenue

Duolingo Max With OpenAI’s GPT-4 Integration Launched, Brings New AI Features

Duolingo has announced the launch of new AI-driven language learning features. The newly launched AI-powered language learner is being called Duolingo Max, and is powered by OpenAI's latest multimodal large language generative text model, GPT-4 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4). Successor to GPT-3, GPT-4 is a hybrid training system trained with around 100 trillion parameters to provide accurate and elaborate answers to questions in a conversational way. Duolingo's new features are claimed to provide language learners with conversation practice and more in-depth explanations on answers. The AI-powered features are being made available to iOS users in the US and other select markets through a top-tier subscription called Duolingo Max. The company claimed in a press release that the leveraging of OpenAI's GPT-4 model had made Duolingo Max the most advanced learning experience on Duolingo yet. Duolingo already has a premium subscription called Super Duolingo. Users subsc

Microsoft Confirms It Is Utilising OpenAI’s GPT-4 on Bing Search Engine

Microsoft, at an event in early February 2023, announced that it would integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT technology into its search engine Bing. The new ChatGPT-powered Bing has now been confirmed to run on OpenAI's latest multimodal large language model, GPT-4 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4), which is the fourth such model created by OpenAI in the GPT series. OpenAI's generative text chatbot, which generates comprehensive and conversational answers to user queries, initially ran on a Natural Language Processing (NLP)-based autoregressive language model called GPT-3, a neural network trained using internet data of around 175 billion parameters to generate any type of text. OpenAI, however, has upgraded its technology to GPT-4, which is a hybrid training system trained with around 100 trillion parameters, making it more efficient and accurate. The latest GPT-4 model, is claimed by the company to be "more creative and collaborative than ever before." Microsoft , ha

Samsung Electronics to Invest $230 Billion in South Korea Chipmaking Base, Will Set Up 5 Chip Factories

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics expects to invest $230 billion (roughly Rs. 18,97,500 crore) over the next 20 years to develop what the country's government called the world's largest chip-making base, in line with efforts to boost the national chip industry. Samsung 's around KRW 300 trillion (roughly Rs. 1,89,86,000 crore) project is part of a KRW 550 trillion (roughly Rs. 34,81,200 crore) private-sector investment plan unveiled by the government on Wednesday. Seoul's strategy aims to expand tax breaks and support to raise competitiveness of high-tech sectors including those involving chips, displays and batteries. The plans come as other countries introduce steps to bolster domestic chip industries, including the United States which last month released details of its CHIPS Act , offering billions of dollars in subsidies for chipmakers that invest in the country. "The economic battlefield, which recently began with chips, has expanded ... countries
