Meta Platforms' WhatsApp has agreed to be more transparent about changes to its privacy policy introduced in 2021, the European Commission said on Monday, following complaints from consumer bodies across Europe. The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) and the European Network of consumer authorities told WhatsApp last year that it had not clarified the changes in plain and intelligible language, violating the bloc's laws. EU members' national regulators can sanction companies for breaches. WhatsApp has now agreed to explain changes to EU users' contracts and how these could affect their rights, and has agreed to display prominently the possibility for users to accept or reject the changes and ensure that users can easily close pop-up notifications on updates. Pakistan's banks have decided to develop a know-your-customer (KYC) platform based on blockchain technology in order to strengthen the country's efforts to curb money-laundering. Blockchain firm Avanza Group has been onboarded to create this platform, according to details shared by the Pakistan Banks' Association (PBA) which has signed an agreement with the Avanza Group for the initiative. The country is currently witnessing a decline in the value of its fiat currency. Waqas Mirza, the CEO of the PBA and Muhammad Aurangzeb, the CEO of Avanza Innovations signed the paperwork in Karachi last week. Two US senators plan to introduce legislation this week aimed at letting the government "ban or prohibit" foreign technology products such as Chinese-owned TikTok, Senator Mark Warner said on Sunday. Warner, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said TikTok would be "one of the potentials" for review under the bill. The Democratic senator made the comments on Fox News Sunday. LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman is leaving OpenAI's board to avoid conflicts of interest as he backs more artificial intelligence companies, he said in an online post. Hoffman, who has invested in and advised the startup since its 2015 founding, said his venture capital firm Greylock is funding companies such as presentation generator Tome, which are paying for tools from OpenAI , the creator of chatbot sensation ChatGPT . Hoffman also co-founded Inflection AI, one of the highest profile startups working on technology similar to OpenAI's.
